Dana Windows increases capacity by 50% with new machine solution for machining aluminium profiles

After six months in operation, the investment in the new machine solution has already proved to be a benefit for the company, which has gained more flexibility and increased its efficiency.

Dana Windows is in the process of future-proofing its production facilities. In this context, we have advised the window manufacturer on the choice of machine solutions, the latest of which is a new automatic aluminium processing system.

Already, the multi-million investment has led to a 50% increase in capacity and, not least, made it possible to handle profiles completely without manual work in the future.

"We are in the process of optimising production and getting rid of manual processes that do not add value, and Nicholaisen has helped us with that. Now we have instead consolidated the processes at one automatic aluminium processing line, which creates much higher efficiency and greater precision, and thus better quality." says Kristian Orluff, Managing Director at Dana Windows, and adds:

"By automating the processes, we have also removed the bottleneck that our aluminium profile processing used to represent. After we invested a double-digit million euro sum in a new production plant for machining and milling wooden profiles just over a year ago, we had difficulty keeping up with the cutting of aluminium profiles - but with the new plant we have achieved a significant increase in capacity of 50 percent, which is particularly important in view of the high demand for wooden/aluminium windows at the moment."

In addition to providing a capacity boost, the new aluminium plant will also help to create a more flexible and adaptable production:

"Dana Windows has an aluminium system that can handle virtually all of their machining processes automatically, whereas before it was only the case about 80 percent of the time, and that was both time-consuming and resulted in a lot of overtime when the profiles had to be moved and machined manually. The new machine solution therefore also helps to create much more flexibility and the possibility of quick changeovers - and this is not least an important parameter if you want to optimise production." explains Peter Haahr Larsen.

With the installation, Dana Windows has gone from being able to handle three-metre aluminium strips to now being able to handle up to six metres without manual work, which is a major advantage as the window manufacturer is seeing an increasing number of the large glass sections in its order books.
